how does it look!!

not here to long on tb.quite a huge range in age,skill,musical styles and Knowledge.and more or less spread out across the globe...all makes for some interesting debates..
over the last while i have noticed that so people buy guitars for looks some for sound and some go halfway between..before somebody chews my head off i dont have a problem with any of this i was just interested.. do looks really matter??? and how important do you rate how it looks over how it plays....
my own example is warwick thumb(i have one) the mm bongo are ugly but sound really good..fender jazz or p bass..kind of classic looks that have been around for years that look really good(i know this is subjective) then there is the newish trend with roadworn look.
i dont really care what my bass looks like or the colour or condition..if it works for me at the time i use it..kind of touched on the subject with a tb member a few days ago(sorry mate cant remember your name)and he more or less said he would never buy an ugly bass.that is perfectly fine,his ugly is my stunning....i think my thumb bass is ugly but i still bought it cause it sounds good!!

I have a Marleaux Consat copy and it IS UGLY, but it sounds awesome, so I use it constantly. I'm also into crackle finished 80's basses and have a couple, and to most it is horrid-puke that nobody would ever show in public in 2010 because according to them, it is "dated" and "a thing of the past let it RIP"..haha, not me, the crackles are on stage anytime I can get them on stage

I always say to people "Don't look, listen" but you know they still look and cringe at the ugly crackle dated 80's basses. I'm on stage to play music not to go naked and show off my body and guitars. I'm there to play to people who paid for the musical appreciation in the first place.

I will never play a bass that I think is ugly regardless of how good it sounds. I've said that since a started and I stick by it. There are so many basses out there that finding one that sounds great and looks great isn't that difficult. So yes, for me, looks are extremely important. However, I wouldn't say that it's more important that tone because I will never play a bass that sounds like crap in a can but looks amazing. Both aesthetics and tone have to be up to par or that bass won't find itself in my hands long.

Theres so many excellent playing, great sounding basses out there even in the under $500 price range (internet store prices not list), that theres absolutely no reason no one cant find excellent looking ones among those masses. Other then lazyness. If it plays and sound great but doesnt look great to you, move on and look for similiar playing and sounding basses that look great to you to.
