How does the Dyna Bass Stack Up Against T-40,

I own a Peavey T-40 that I love in researching Peavey Basses I came across The Dyna Bass They look cool and have favorable reviews and would like to get one but how does it stack up against the T-40. Is the tone as good is the tone different enough it to justify a purchase is the quality as strong...ps play mostly Rock

The Dyna bass is a more modern sounding bass, tighter cleaner than a T40 and it has good output( are they active I can't remember but I think they are). Excellent quality I don't think you will be disappointed. Oh and most importantly lighter!

It's been so long since I have played one it's not going growl like a T40 those things are beasts! I bought one when they first came out and it went through a bunch of my JBLs lol. Btw I still have a black and maple T40, a mahogany Patriot to. The Dyna bass is going to have more in common with Ric tone than a full bore T40.I think they Dyna bass would be just fine for Rock, I think you'll find it very versatile

I have a '79 T-40 and a '84 DynaBass (And 2 Slant Pup 80's Furys)
As GoT59 said it is a much more modern sound and you won't get a growl like a t-40 does.
IMO I don't think you can get as close to a Ric tone with the Dyna but it's a great bass none the less.
Has a smaller and faster neck than the T-40 and the active/passive switch is pretty cool.

I think they complement each other very well but that said I'll probably be selling my Dynabass soon.
These USA Peaveys become an addiction, they are so good and cheap that it's hard not to pick them up when you see one.

I have a T40 and a Dyna Unity. If you love your T40...that has no bearing on what you will think of the Dyna. Totally different basses IMO. I don't think one is better than the other, but I do see why you might prefer one over the other. Me? I prefer my Dyna bass.

I played a Dyna Unity Koa for a few years (borrowed from my uncle) and I loved it! It was my first active bass and I will always play active basses because of it. Pretty thin neck (Jazz-like) and very comfortable.
That one was a PJ setup, so that should give an idea of the tone. Modern punch.

I owned a Dyna Unity for a while. Very, very nice bass, but nothing like the T-40. The neck was much narrower and thinner. Great if you like Jazz Bass necks, but if the T-40 neck is more your thing, you may not like it. The P/J pups sounded excellent but, again, nothing like the T-40.

Which type Dyna -Bass are you talking about ? There is the Bolt on Dyna which is basically an active version of the Super Ferrite Foundation, and the Unity Dyna which is a neck thru active tilt back headstock bass with nothing in common with the original, other than Peavey and Dyna in the name.

I have owned both, (no longer have my T) and the Dyna is the bomb. Just like the previous poster said, lighter, modern, tighter and it has a preamp 3 band e.q. Something else cool it has a mini toggle that goes from active to passive. In passive mode your high on e.q. becomes your tone! Lots of tonal varieties. Has the neck tilt feature. There is usually NONE on eBay for a reason. It there is they list them too high. Got a chance to snag one? Do it, you will love it. Laters
