How expensive is it to replace a Fender neck? legitimate sources?

Looking for a maple neck, was wondering how expensive it would be to replace, and would i need to hire someone?

From what i can tell, its about 200$ to do, is this correct?

And im looking for sources to find these necks, thanks! :hyper:

Prices and quality vary obviously. You can buy a neck from Fender if you want a direct factory replacement or go to an maker of Fender replacement necks such as Warmoth, USA Custom, Mighty Might, Stewart McDonald. The price of those necks vary greatly depending on the wood, binding, finish etc.

$200 sounds about right+/- for maple/maple or maple/rosewood.

warmoth makes excellent fender replacement parts. i just got a jazz body from them and plan on getting my bass neck too. they are very helpful if you need advice, just call.

i think the warmoth maple/rosewood was like $197. depending on the wood, but $200 is a good guesstimate.

installation: warmoth parts are measured to fit a fender. take out the neck screws and bolt that new baby on. the nut for the strings may have to be adusted fil,ed down, as well as the truss rod depending how you like the action. installation is a snap though.

i just had a bad experience with a bass neck on ebay. it was a conversion neck. import neck a guy de-fretted and cut it down to a jazz bass size. the measurements, he said were that of a fender. WRONG. the neck doesnt even fit, and the headstock is too small for the tuners. if you do ebay, buyer beware. my bad experience isnt the only thing out there, ebay is useful and you can find some good stuff, just be sure you know what you are getting. i was mislead big time.

Yeah i see quite a bit on ebay, but i sure don't want an experience like yours.


gord, nice thoughts on Warmoth, ill check the out. And installation doesn't sound to bad, ill look more into it.

I just installed two fretless Jazz necks from Allparts on Warmoth bodies and I was very impressed with their quality. They can be had for $120 unfinished and no nut to $215 finished w/nut on E-bay. You might also check the TB classifieds; there are always necks listed there.

There's an eBay seller n.aalox who buys new MIM Fenders and parts them out, so you get factory fresh parts, albeit without the Fender warranty. I've bought lots of stuff from him, including a perfect MIM fretless Jazz neck. Not sure if he has any maple fretboards, but those might become available when the new MIM basses with maple boards are in circulation.

There's also reliablefender on eBay who parts out new and used MIA, MIM, and MIJ/CIJ Fenders. A lot of their stuff is higher priced Buy It Now listings but they do run auction listings every week that end more reasonably.
