As has been said countless times in these threads, get the appropriate gauges strings and you can tune however you like and not worry about breakage. You are just creating problems and apparently anxiety for no reason.

The thing is when the extremely rare bass string break occurs it’s not like it goes flying off like a bull whip. It just kinda goes limp, maybe moving an inch or two. OP your face, and eyes, are perfectly safe.

Depends of which string.
Probably tunning a 5th above in the G string could end in tragedy.
You can tune a Low B in E, easily.
I would try a balanced set or mixing sets to keep the tension even.

I think it's simply another way of asking "how much tension can you put on a Bass string before it breaks?"

And my answer is "I don't really know. I don't do destructive testing of anything for free..."

I've designed bass strings for a few different brands. I've also consulted with many brands as they're developing them. In fact, I got two sets from a well-known brand two weeks ago I'm messing with.

Anyhooo......Several years ago, a well-known brand was sending me set after set for testing and feedback. When I was putting one set on and tuning it to pitch, a string broke. It broke at the exposed core that goes around the ball end. The string actually DID whip towards the headstock and the broken, exposed core put about a 1/2" "slice" on my cheek. I sent the company a picture of that.
