I'm pretty lucky in all of my years I've never had an issue with any Fender guitar, bass or amplifier I've owned.

There was an extremely heavy 72 Jazz but that's on me. I knew it when I bought it.

Who wants to read that though?

Same, fantastic instruments that have remained in my stable as others of "higher quality" have come and gone.

They fit me, the tone just works and they're rock solid.

I know I posted a tome about a bass I just bought, but honestly, I've been playing guitar and bass for decades and I wouldn't even sweat a slight misalignment between the control plate and pickguard. In the oodles of J-basses I've had in my hands, I've seen them with everything from visually perfect to large gaps, from vintage to right outta da box.

Not going to waste my time with another 18 page Fender pile on, but that tiny gap on the pickguard is your only complaint? Ridiculous.

Sorry, but you don't have the right to a perfect product at whatever price you want from a brand that can command a premium for a given line/model.

Maybe not, but I have the right to call crappy quality control what it is and to lament the current state of things regarding the company and the public's willingness to accept sub par product.

Previous owner switched it from V/V/T to Blend/V/T and swapped the knobs around

Here are 5 basses in stock at sweetwater now. All have excellently aligned parts. The OP should send his back. Quality control at Fender is OK, he just got an outlier.
