How long does a typical battery last?

Hi people,
i have an EMG-equipped P bass and i was wondering how long the battery lasts. How often do you guys change the batteries? i dont want my bass to go dead on me on a gig. thanks a lot.

It depends on the active circuit and how much time you spend using the bass. With a cord plugged in the active circuit is on and there will be battery drain even when not playing. On my active Ibanez I changed batteries evry month when playing 2 nights a week even though they still sounded fine. I just put the used battery in my tuner where they would last a long time.

In my P bass with a Raven Labs preamp installed I changed batteries once a year. Different circuit and different batteries (lithium watch batteries)

Best bet is to always keep a fresh set of batteries with you and always unplug the cord from your bass when not playing for longest battery life. Learn how to change your battery quickly if needed on a gig. I've only had to do it once on a Music Man when I got careless and didn't change the battery for a long time. Fortunately it didn't quit in the middle of a set when playing but I caught it at sound check and had a new spare.

With your P bass, if the battery is under the pickguard and you have to remove the pickguard to get at it, that can take longer. When in doubt change the battery before the gig.

I change batteries in all my basses when I change the clocks for daylight savings time twice a year. Never had a problem.

The old ones go in my smoke detectors
