How long does your band rehearse for?

Twice a week. 4 hours on Tuesday night, usually 5 or 6 on Friday night. Right now we are working on a couple new covers and 2 new originals. Well, that's a poor excuse I guess, we all just really like to play.

Two bands

one has 3 hours blocked as rehearsal time, but usually runs a minimum of 45 mins over. With multiple breaks, vast stretches of time between songs... lots of time wasted

other generally practices for 90min to 120min with no breaks and we get alot more work done that those rehearsals

Three hours seems to be the magic number. Sometimes we'll hit the 4+ mark, occasionally 2 1/2 if someone's got something they have to do with some urgency.

But typically 3-4 times / week at 3 hours is the sweet spot.

The only "band" I play with has a weekly gig near downtown. We rehearsed a little bit to get started, and from then on, the leaders just e-mail us tracks they want us to learn and tell us the key. We show up to the gig ready to go.

Very quick, we do a set list, and cord charts for songs that are new.
Band leader, does not like to over-play song before a gig.

Second band, your average 3 hour rehearsal.

In my one one band, we usually practices for about 2-2 1/2 hours a week and in my other band, we usually practice around 3 1/2 - 4 hours a week.

We have a tried and tru setlist for the wedding gigs we play. When asked to learn a new song, we throw it together after setting up at the gig or actually at the gig itself. Works well for us.

For cover bands, that's the way I like it. I'm an old phart (experience helps), and I can do my homework!

I've got a sub gig coming up on July 4th. Never played with this band before, and the setlist they e-mailed me a couple days ago contains 20 songs I've never played before. I'm getting together with them for a brief rehearsal the day of the gig, then doing the gig. I'll do my homework ahead of time... being a low-tech guy, I use YouTube.
