Me too except it was in 1999! So I have been playing for 12 years with a break for marriage from late 07 to early 09. Thank goodness I got divorced!

LOL...You want my OPINION of how long I've been playing? Or do you want to know how long I've actually been playing?

Sorry...just seemed like a funny way to word the question.

Off and on somewhere between 15 and 22 years. Like I said, it's been off and on. I took time away from bass to play piano and do other non-musical things in life. If it'd been 15 years solid, I'd be much better now.

Playing bass for 2 years.
I always wanted to learn bass but i didn't have the money for Bass Lessons. one day i thought that it doesn't matter and i will teach myself. my friends helped me with so technique and i'm teaching myself how to play through the internet, and now i can jam with friends and i'm in band with my friends.

Also since '79, with a couple of breaks. Didn't play much from '91-'92 when my bass was stolen and wasn't in a hurry to find a replacement, then took a longer break from about '99-'05. Getting my playing and reading chops back to an acceptable level after that extended break took me close to a year--now except for slapping am playing better than ever.

In fact, now that I think of it, it's probably exactly 37 years +/- just a couple days; I distinctly remember it was a Saturday rehearsal in late March 1974 when the bass player in my band grabbed the guitar out of my hands and said "You suck, let me play that!" and gave me her Fender Mustang Bass instead.
