I also use my Abacus when calculating my lunch tab at Howard Johnson’s.

My SO's father used them daily at the restaurant he had in the last century.

I actually have a similar background. The guys/gals that knew how to use them were VERY fast and could outpace me on a calculator, any day of the week!

They did not, however, listen to CD's :)
Her father did listen to CDs; he was very much into music and lived through the "Glorious Mono" era and on into the "Digital Revolution". Regarding the former, he installed a Bozak 302 inside the fireplace in 1956.

It still works fine. When we did our living room gut renovation in '17 we kept it intact.
