How Much Hum on J Basses?

Gotta love it! I found this FAQ on Audere's website and, while it does fold the proprietary active pre into the equation, it also presents a lucid explanation of pickup noise and suggested corrective measures.

Sorry for more of the same questions... I have a Geddy Lee early model that I placed .25 qtr pound Semor D's in and added an Audere J 23 on board preamp... I shielded everything with copper tape and I still get a ton of noise if I adjust any control off of center (using both pups equally) it's noise city! I like the growl and the general sound of SD PUPS... However I am considering moving to EMG9J1's or something that has NOISELESS in the PUPS description... I play alt/hard rock, chili peppers, rage against the machine, 311 type material!~~
