“I do know that the slickest way to lie is to tell the right amount of truth--then shut up.”

It's also possible to get in deep trouble telling the truth. Let's see what examples people will offer.....

Nobody cares what your favorite song is. Nobody cares what you WANT to sing.

So, in my world....

Plenty of successful cover bands de-tune songs or play them in a different style live and they sound fine. Even the original bands sometimes play songs de-tuned, at different tempos or in a different style at concerts to accommodate the singer or players. Making it sound good is what it's all about.
I do understand your point though, when a musician is trying to stay faithful to the recording but can't quite pull it off it's painful to listen to and crowds don't give out A's for effort.
