How to hook up the eq to a mixer

I know this must be elementary. ..but I'm not a sound man....I have a pa system at home that I use most the time just listen to music through. ...I just got a eq and wanted some help on how and where I should plug it in....thanks

I think you need to give more info - which mixer, which EQ, which amp?
Do you want to use the EQ for an individual channel or for the main mix?

It's a Yamaha power mixer and a peavey eq....yes I would like main...because that would be used with the whole system....right????

Does the Yamaha have insert jacks or effects send/returns for the main left/right channels?

If you could name the model it would be easier to see what's possible.

Hmm, the mixer already has a graphic EQ for the main output, no inserts for the main out, and your EQ is a single channel (i.e not stereo). I guess you could connect it as an insert effect on one channel but I don't quite see the use.

Why is it you want to use the EQ, what do you want it to do?

I'm wanting to use the eq for the music that I play through it...I don't plan on using it for miking. ..just for the music

Run your playback device into the EQ then into the board.

It's a single channel EQ though, so unless you play back your music in mono I have to say this EQ isn't really a good choice for what you want to do.

If mono is OK then the easiest way is to do what carl h. suggested, connect your music player to the EQ and then the EQ to one of the mixer channels. Or you can use the EQ as an insert effect on one channel, page 9 of the mixer's Link Removedl describes the special cable you need for that.

Yea tried mono...didn't like it at all...lol....so what do you suggest. ...2 channel eq....New mixer...both....I'm just glad I haven't put alot into it yet....good for home but would suck out playing....thsnks for yalls help

I'd say get a home stereo. They are much cheaper than PA and are designed for what you are doing

Lol...true...but I'm going to need it as a pa too...so it has to be able to do more than just one thing

I went with powered speakers and a small mixer which had everything I needed AND 50% more than I need, for the things that pop up when playing out live. With the size and cost of small mixers today, there isn't much penalty for going bigger than your minimum needs.
