How to make my low B Louder.

At the risk of copping flack, my experience is that some Fenders dont necessarily have good B strings. I had a beautiful 5 string MIA Jazz deluxe once, and tried everything I could think of to improve the B but it wasn't happening. Tried all brands of strings, including tapered and super steps, tried different pups, even a J retro. Nothing worked, and I eventually came to the conclusion that it was the bass. Maybe the combination of the wood in the neck and the wood in the body wasn't working, I dunno.
Because I work in the musical instrument industry, I get the opportunity to try out many instruments, and found other Fenders that I felt had sub-standard B's.
