How to manage being in several bands, rig-wise.

You could try buying a lightweight/small rig for practices that you don't mind moving as much.

I bought a well used Peavey 2x15 to leave at the practice space (basement) for one of my bands. It wouldn't be worth the effort to steal it. My other bands practice at my house.

I never leave instruments or any gear in a rehearsal space, club, school, or vehicle.

Get an assortment of light cabs and a couple of heads. Carry what you need.

Pick the best band and drop the other two.

Or carry your practice amp and mic it.

Maybe someone else in the bands has an extra cab/head or two they aren't using.

OK, I think I'm gonna build some muscle moving my gear between two of the places.

I'm also tryin' to get a good deal in a used 2x10 behringer combo for the third space. I said Behringer.

Two smallish cabs that get left at rehearsal spaces, depending on my schedule, which includes a rock band, two jazz trios, occasional theatre gigs and subs. A great little cart to wheel it all around with. I never leave my bass anywhere but in my home!

Well, 'til now I've always rehearsed the "plug-and-play" way, and if I have to install and uninstall my stuff at every rehearsal (at least 4 times a week), I imagine that I will lose A LOT of time that I could spend playing my instrument...

Yeah, I know.

In two of the three bands the drummer hits the kit like CRAZY.

In the third one I can cope without a big amp.

I'm in several bands and to get around I saved up and purchased a few very awesome things:

GK MB Fusion: 3lb 500w Hybrid Head. It's tiny and awesome
Peavey Tour 2x10: Ultra Light and small enough to fit in my front seat.
"Beater Bass": Though Not at all a beater bass, I picked up a Mexican Fender J Bass so I wouldn't be ape-sh*t if/when my warwick thumb got broke in some way.

My normal rig is a lot more oppressively heavy and large, but for practices I can get my rig around in something as small as a miata.

its pretty easy for me.

markbass heads, boutique basses and cabinets. my basses are high end and fancy, but when it comes down to it, theyre jazz basses, electronically.

if i dont need the clean fat jazz bass sounds, i use my VT bass. have yet to ever want or need a tone that couldent be found somewhere with this combo.

cheap disposable cabinets all over town - if you practice in questionnable places.. take the time to cable it down to make other things easier to steal.... light heads brought in.
