How to scan sheet music and convert to tab

This will not always work -

I was successful with a download from @Tom Read , @LeeNunn and @Rob Palmer

This was done using Musescore

Step 1 - under file pdf - import pdf - this will take you to the website and you will need to upload the pdf file. If success move onto the next step, if not game over

Step 2 - open as a musescore file

Step 3 - Under Edit -> Instruments add a linked score (bass tablature) to the existing clef (must be linked)

Step 4 - Change from Page View to Single Page (mass the next steps easier)

Step 5 - Select the entire score

Step 5 - Go to Tools - Transpose and drop the score and octave

Step 6 - Ctrl C to cut the score that has been dropped an octave

Step 7 Paste in the Bass tab section

Done - except the temp will be wrong I think it defaults to 120

Wow. Kind of like a musical version of OCR. And you don't need to do this with ChrisDev because his transcriptions already have them.

I know bass is a transposing instrument, but I wonder if there is a way to move the dots up an octave without changing the tab. Also, is it easy to adjust the tab so that you don't use an open string (e.g., change open D to fifth fret on the A string)?

Step eight - select all of the bass clef and raise an octave

So I actually use MuseScore to write out TABs for myself. You can add a linked staff TAB to a standard notation bass part, but MuseScore will just automatically fill in everything on the first 5 frets or so. You need to manually adjust the TAB itself.

For example, the bass part you just linked. MuseScore saw the D3 and G3 and automatically put them as open D and G. You might prefer to play it differently; I would play the G3 on as 5th fret on the D string instead.

Also, if you're using a different tuning than standard, you need to edit the string data in the bass part.

Got it - basically you select the first open note
open D string for example
right click the open note select
Note -> select -> more select same pitch same staff click ok while that note is still selected press control down arrow
all open D are now 5th fret A string
repeat for any open strings on the G & A string -
