How to stop guitar knobs from crackling?

My stacked (EQ i think?) knob crackles about 50% of the time....Its on my Ibanez BTB400QM, dont know if this is a common problem on them or whatever....Anyone got any tips on this on how to cure this?

Thanks.

That would be bass knobs, not guitar knobs!!

Hi Blake.

Yea i'm talking Bass knobs.

You can try spraying an electronic cleaner, such as DeoxIT or Link Removed, into the open slots of the pot. Then turn the knob a few times back and forth,to allow the cleaner to work on the wiper contacts. Let dry and check it.

Hi Lon.

Would WD40 do the same thing or do i need a specific electronics cleaner like DeoxIT?

Thanks.

Don't use WD-40. WD 40 is a water displacer that leaves a grimy residue after the solvents have evaporated. Good for spraying bare metal to keep from rusting. Use WD-40 on your lawnmower, not your bass GUITAR.
Go to Radio Shack and buy Control/Contact Cleaner and Lubricant. Stock # 64-4315. It used to be called Tuner Cleaner and Lubricant, but they changed the name.
(Dont buy the contact cleaner only, it's a different product that doesn't lubricate, and will wash out any lube to make things worse.)
Use sparingly. Just a little shot is enough to clean up your contacts. Turn them repeatedly after you spray. Costs like $10, but if you buy a comparable spray from Stew Mac, it will cost more.

Thanks guys.

Ive been and bought some contact cleaner, but that was before blockinlay said to use a cleaner/lubricant..so if i use the contact cleaner can i then use something like white spray grease to lubricate it, or do i need to specifically use a cleaner/lubricant?...sorry to be a pain guys, its the easter weekend over here in the uk now so ive got no chance of getting a cleaner/lubricant or DeoxIT.

Thanks guys.
