I listen to very technical music (technical death metal, progressive metal and rock, jazz, fusion, and classical), so I understand where you're coming from, but musicality absolutely trumps technicality. Without musicality, all you'll be able to do is run up and down scales. You may be able to play 16th notes at 200+ bpm, but you'll never create a coherent piece of music (at least not consistently). With all that said, technicality allows you to tap into musical ideas you might not be able to without the chops. Personally, I'd rather listen to music performed by compotent musicians (those with chops and musicality) who use technicality as a sort of dynamic, instead of those who make only simple, straightforward music/convoluted attempts at music.
