i know Hugh's main bass is his Fender Jazz 5 but what is he playing through? I'm an Ampeg user with very little effects on my sound. Playing in aJovi tribute, I'd like to know what he uses for amps and any effects.

your best bet is to watch as many live Bon Jovi vids as possible and see what he's using. With the context of Bon Jovi's music, the type of amplifier Hugh is using isn't nearly as important as the bass. Take "living on a prayer". That's a 60s Precision bass with roundwounds. A Fender through an Ampeg will be totally fine.
