Hughey Leggat's Teardrop ’65 P-Bass

Not sure if I like it or not. Kinda not, but it is unique!

The video in '72 shows it with what appears to be a black pickguard and a greyish paint job. Must've been taken down to wood later, since the pics show a pretty crappy refinishing job...

You get a good shot of the bass starting at 2:20, but the video quality is pretty poor.
 
it's unique in an oh no, another teardrop chop job on a vintage Fender kinda way, but who knows this bass' particular story? it could have been a salvage effort which saved an otherwise wasted bass body ...let's hope.
Yeah, too bad there isn't more of a story behind it, that I can find...
Does anyone know more about it? Not like it was owned by JPJ...
