Some questions for you B5 owners:

Does this bass have the extended neck and massive neck-bolt-on arrangement of the BassX.oc5, or is this a shorter neck with a more-conventional bolt-on a la Fender? I see it's described as "6-bolt" but that's just a bolt count, not a full description.

Any dead spots? I still have a bad taste in my mouth from Fenders and that dead spot on the G.

A bass shipped cross-country absent a hard case, AND taking a bass anywhere in only a gig bag, scare the hell out of me. At this level of quality it smacks of irresponsibility. Is this a valid concern or am I worried about nothing? Is there a hard-case option that can be had?

Thanks in advance. Seriously drooling over this one, and, strangely enough, for its PASSIVE, not active, tone. (It'll be for country/western.)

One of these went for about 299 on eBay yesterday. I watched the clock tick down, and knew I'd be getting a steal, but just didn't have the money/guts to pull the trigger.

There is one thing I honestly don't understand. How can European (German) made instrument sell for about 50% more in Germany than in US (1500$ in Germany, 999$ in US)? It's the same thing with Markbass - I live in Europe and have paid mine roughly 900$, while same amp sells for 600$ in US.

Not a rant, just something I have never understood..

I could be the finishes - the US finishes do not appear to have much work put into them. Note, the German Human basses have finishes you would expect in a high level instrument.

I played such a bass when I went to musik schmidt a little while ago(BTW. the very best music shop I have ever been to)and quite liked the bass.
Human base used to have a model that looked almost identical some years ago.
That too was fantastic value for the money!

I owned this Bass yesterday and I like it alot. Playability is superb. Siggi Jäger, the Owner and Builder of Human Base Basses founded the Bass Company "No Sweat Basses" in earlier Days and thats what the Playability is about. It plays very easily.

There are definately no Deadspots on this Bass. All Tones are very even all across the Fretboard. Low-B is very good. Tight and defined.

The Delano X-tender Pickup covers a very wide Frequency Range and I can easily get different Sounds out of this "One Pickup Bass" wich is not a "One Trick Pony"

The Glockenklang Preamp/EQ is very natural sounding. I can't hear that it colours the Sound in any Way. You hear your Bass, you hear Wood.
I love the Fact, that there is no Volume Difference in Active or Passive Mode and that you have a passive Toneblend (Treble Pot) in Passive Mode.

Craftmanship is excellent and absolute Flawless.

Most notably, the VAT. When you apply it in every step of the chain, from manufacturer, to wholesaler, to retailer, it adds up fast.

The only thread I've seen on this Bass. Its my second foray into the 5 string bass market and I must say I'm more than pleasantly surprised. It has no feel of 'a budget model bass' to me. It's easily the equal to some basses that I own that are twice as expensive. the range of sounds is perfect though I cant imagine myself using 'parallel' or 'passive' modes. I think the 'series' mode has the most punch for what I need.

11/16" or 17.5 mm, measured string center-to-center at the bridge. This is the original set up spec as delivered new.

I totally love this thing, btw and play it exclusively now. It's everything Ed said in his review. I find that it's also nicely balanced with no neck dive, and the pickup in passive mode sounds so good that I don't mind that I tend to leave the active on...battery life is OK but it helps to remember to turn it off when not actually playing. :-/

Action is outstanding, intonation is very good, range of tone is remarkable. The feel of the pots and tuners is smoooth and the heavy knobs and pots feel like very high-grade precision electronic instrumentation knobs - fine-grained and subtly damped.

The high end response on this pickup-preamp is no joke, it brings out the harmonics like no bass I've ever played and equals the sustain of the best of them.

I'm using a 4" Italia Leather strap and it compliments the bass nicely. Even the gig bag is well made and has nice shoulder straps and a durable large-tooth zip. My only wish would be that the side pocket on the bag were just an inch or two bigger, so I could fit my G-B Shuttle 6 head in it, for that MROD grail of a free hand on the way to the gig...

All and all I'm pleased as hell!

I agree. The bags given can be a breaker for me. This bag is a lot nicer than most others in that price range
