Humbuckers - Coil Split - Preamp

Okay, I finally got time to verify the wiring on these pickups and had an interesting find!

The pickup's coils, with respect to their physical position, have the coil color codes swapped which sort of jives with the functionality of the factory wiring. The coils, when split, were the outer coils: "neck pickup/neck coil" and "bridge pickup/bridge coil". However, the pickups magnetic polarity is also reversed, which means the outer coils have the same magnetic polarity, so running them together would not provide hum cancellation...which explains why this bass produced alot of noise in single coil mode.

Ultimately, I think I need to use the first diagram shown in post #19. The results of adhering to that color code with the actual wiring configuration below, will provide coil splitting for both "bridge-side" coils and they will have opposite magnetic polarity in order to provide hum cancellation.

Interesting to note: The bridge pickup is consistent with the Fender humbucker wiring diagram below...the neck pickup also follows the diagram insofar as the north coil still has the same color combination...but the north and south coils have their physical position switched. Of course I am assuming that "north" and "south" technically refer to the coil's magnetic polarity and not the physical position in the humbucking pickup.

So without checking anything, it would have been safe to follow the diagram but it is nice to know for sure which coil is where because it was my desire to have the bridge pickup's bridge coil on single coil for that extra bite...I do not care so much about the neck pickup except that it is proper to have them humcancelling.
