HX Effects Noble preamp model OMG!

I'll have to upload the latest firmware to my HX Stomp and give the "Regal" a try. I have a Manley Tube DI that is hands-down better than anything I've been able to achieve with the HX, although I've gotten it kinda close in the overall character, but I prefer to reserve the Manley for studio use.

Maybe I'll be inspired to keep the HX Stomp a little longer if I like the new additions, but I just haven't really found a need for it in my use cases, much as I've wanted to over the last 4 years.

Since Yamaha owns Line 6 and Ampeg, I don't understand why the Ampeg Classic preamp isn't in the HX Effects/One yet. They already modelled the compressor and the scrambler.

Well the Ampeg classic is based on the Ampeg SVT which is already in the Helix.

Anyway, as some said, the Regal sounds pretty good. I don't have the Nobel to compare, but I really like how it sounds.

I think the stomp into a quality DI like the capo or whatever you prefer is the way to go. It brings that feel back to the equation and balances out the signal too. I need to try the Nobel emulation and see how it compares to the real thing.

you can always run the Helix into your (real) Noble. Just sayin'

@IvanBassist was referenced in a post above. Last time I checked, Ivan was still using his Noble after his Quad Cortex. So, good going into good! :thumbsup:

on edit: it appears Ivan has taken his Noble off his gigging board and replaced it with the Origin Effects DCX. But apparently the reason is that he wants to preserve the Noble from the abuse of the road.

yeah, totally get it. While I'm definitely intruiged by stuff like the HX Stomp, TonEX and Neual Cortex etc. , I'm very happy with my Cali76 => VT => Noble DI signal chain. Sounds great and is very portable.

Stomp is more for flexibility and not having to bring a lot of pedals to a gig to get various effected tones. I think the noble emulation can be used creatively in it but I wouldn’t buy a digital fx pedal to replace a noble or a capo. If my chain was just a comp and a preamp I probably would never have grabbed a stomp either.

Ran this chain yesterday and was really impressed with how little EQing it needed:

Compressor
HX One [Regal, low cut ON]
LBA 2020S
HX One [time based effect]

Trying some kind of tube in front for even better feel next.

Yes. The QC + Noble combination is amazing, but gear takes a serious beating while traveling. Specially on festivals where things can get quite chaotic during band change-overs.

The DCX bass adds some nice analog grit to the sound and I have a neural capture if my Noble inside the QC :)

The real Noble also adds some more low end “depth”/ 3-D quality to the sound. The regal block is pretty good, though!

I like the regal block as a direct sound out. The eq is familiar to me, similar to the noble. It’s not going to replace it but it can be used creatively in a setup to add more low end and bite to a signal.

I just downloaded the new Pod Go update, which contains the Noble and Bassman Silver Panel updates. i have not tried them in the studio yet, but through my amp the 'Noble' sounds OK, it warms up the tone of my Jazz bass and TRB JP 2 in a nice 'tubey' way, but clean with no distortion/break up - although I don't have the real thing to compare it with. The Bassman in pre amp mode is a winner though, a lot more tube character than the 'Noble', if that is what you are after. The 'Noble' with the Ampeg Opto Comp after it in the Pod Go was quite nice. I guess we are all waiting on a Cali compressor model now...
