Hi there im from spain and ive been wondering about international shiping, since you have exported basses to some countries of europe maybe you could tell me whats the deal on taxes, i mean i have to pay both american taxes and then my coutry taxes? Ive been tempted to buy from you but this has really been worriying me. An about used gear is it needed to pay my contry taxes on something thats not new???

Public prices in USA always show without taxes.
So when when you buy something in a US shop it doesn't have a VAT applied.
When you get into Europe, you hape to pay an import tax+the VAT of your country. It doesn't matter if you buy used or not, you still have to pay them. Same if it's a gift.

I suspect that the warwick question arose because if an American citizen bought a US made product in Europe (or anywhere else outside of the USA) and then had it shipped back to the USA they do not pay import duty.

This is called, if memory serves me right, "The Returned American Goods Exemption", and importation taxes simply do not apply.

Sadly, when European manufactured goods are returned to Europe we do not enjoy the same tax-break.

It still astonishes me that a Markbass LMII, made in Italy, can cost just $599 in the USA but the cheapest I can find one in the UK is £449 - which translates at today's exchange rate to almost exactly $920.

It's 60% more expensive to buy a European product in Europe than it is in the USA. Daylight robbery.

Alex, we've been shipping internationally for over 10 years now, sending bass gear overseas pretty much every week. All customers abroad claim to save $$$ even after shipping and taxes/duties, as unbelievable as that sounds! We hear it time and time again. Let us know what you're interested in as well as where you're located, and I'll send you generous prices as well as shipping rates.

As expressed by others, there's no USA taxes to pay.

What about shipping to Indonesia? Some of the basses here in Indonesia are priced way to high compared to their prices in the US.
How much would I have to pay for shipping fee?
How do I determine the amount of taxes / duties to pay?
Let's use a Musicman Bongo Stealth Black HH for an example.

Ali, several issues:

1) We're not allowed by EB/MM to ship New basses overseas (with some exceptions, which don't apply to this bass).
However, we Can send most other brands, so please let me know if interested in something beside MM...

2) Indonesia is the Credit Card Fraud Capital of the world, so we must have ALL credit card holder as well as bank information before shipping anything there.

IF interested in other brands, please let me know and we'll go from there. Send email directly to me, I'll send quotes and shipping rates, as well as all other info needed.....

1) Oh well, since it is EB/MM policy, I guess it's just my luck. Gotta wait for a pre-owned Bongo 5... sigh...

just to let you know, the Stingray HH sells at about USD 3000 here in Indonesia. What a rip off.

I ordered one bass from mr Bordwell and he will send it to me to Finland. First the bass goes to customs and they will charge me 3,5 % customs fee and after that they will take 22% vat, (includes Customs fee, shipping and the price of the instrumet). And in Europe we have only one, EU wide customs, so there won't be any big differensees between the taxes or even shipping costs.
The price of this bass will be allmost the same in euros as it is mentioned in dollars (1000 dollars - 1000 euros), after the taxes and shipping costs. At the moment I can get a good bass at least a little cheaper from US than from Europe. Also in US you have wider selection of GOOD instruments. At the moment euro is so strong currency that my advice is that take some time, find some good seller or builder and make a good deal. Hope you understand. :bassist:

Alex, I live in Madrid & I've done it several times including:

1. Buying new from US
2. Buying used
3. Getting a gift

In any case you pay an import tax plus the local VAT (16%)
You pay this amount on the declared value of the goodsm it applies indipendently of where the goods is manufactured. Given the Euro/$ ratio can be a nice exercise for us here.

Some more tips:

If you get it shipped through USPS (mind now that there're some new restrictions on dimensions which usually mean not possible to ship a bass with case) it's the cheapest way, but you'll get a notice paper at home with which go to "Correos" and pay the fees. If you ship through Fedex, UPS or DHL... they will bring to your door and you need to pay to them the taxes... it's one of their services... but they are about 3 times more expensive than USPS.Finally, it doesn't compensate usually to buy speakers in US, way too expensive to ship it here. For amps, mind different voltage we have in Europe...you should likely change the transformer or buiying an adaptor... my suggestion, don't mess with that. Basses are of course very safe ...

Yes sir. You are the first one to know. I hope I can order some gear from you. I must say that you have some very nice instruments in your collection. If you promise that you won't tell my wife, I can say that I am after a good 4 string slap bass......... But remember, this was only between you and me ;)
