I currently use either a blackface Showman, or late 70s V4B head.
I have one Ampeg SVT15E and one SVT210HE.

I love the size, weight and portability of the cabs, but I am not crazy about the sound. Too farty, especially the 15".
I keep hearing about Aguilar, Berg, Avatar, Acme etc.
There are no dealers where I live. I am going to NAMM next week.
What would be the best replacement for the Ampeg speakers ?

If u r old, then be sure to go with Neo style magnets as they are wicked light.

I have a GK Neo 212-II that is rated for 600W and its 50 lbs. My 59 y.o. back says thanks.

You also want to try Mesa PowerHouse 212's.

Both Mesa and GK have 4x12's that are awesome single cab solutions.

If you are not real weight and/or cost sensitive there are lots of options....I hear great things about the Genz Benz Uber series....they are Neo designs and very hard to beat acoustically.

Seriously though, You may want to check out the mesa powerhouse 212. I think that the neo speakers would be a lot lighter than the bergs. I'm not too sure on that though, so don't stone me anyone.

Based on the heads you listed, you may want to choose a more efficient design -- say 100 dB/W/M or higher.

You may find that the Bergantino NV series is right up your alley. Schroedor and Bag End both make some very efficient cabs and you can get lightweight models of the Schoeders.

Much of it will boil down to personal taste.

My cab of choice is the Genz-Benz Uber 212.

I would keep the 210HE and just replace the 15 and I'd go with an Aguilar DB 115.

Every chance I get, Genz Benz Uber cabs, (212, or 410), are a fairly lightweight cab with heavyweight sound. I gig an Uber 212 in a loud band. I have previously owned both the Ampeg cabs you have now, as well as others, and Epifani UL, Mesa Powerhouse, and other less awesome cabs, and the GB Ubers top the list, for my taste. Certainly worth a listen.

Yeah, I hear ya - I'm 47, and in very good shape for my age - but I can see that line of thinking on the horizon...

Currently, I have the PH610, an SVT-810, 215D-BW, SVT-410HLF, and a Traynor TS115 - none of which have neo drivers in 'em... I mostly gig with the Mesa, and it's not too bad to load in and out of my truck - I get help at gigs involving stairs, and haven't done a gig off ground level in years... The 215 stays parked at a rehearsal space - it's loaded with Kappa LFAs, which actually added a bit of weight over the original BWs - but sound fantastic... Eventually, I'll replace them with some 3015s or 3015LFs - and that'll make that cab much more manageable to move... The 810 is a recent find - and hasn't left the house since I got it - the 410 "only" weighs around 85lbs, which is easily manageable compared to the others...

I always play in gigging bands, and usually strike a deal with the guitarist to help each other with our cabs - so it's really not that tough at the moment... I really do love the sound of that PH610, though - easily the best cab I've ever owned, sound-wise... What can I say?? - I'm a big cab lover, and nothing carries low end like a big cab...

If I were the OP, I'd be looking into a pair of neo loaded 212s - probably by Genz-Benz or G-K...

GK Neo 212 II

Do you folks think I could replace the 2 Ampegs with one of these ?
I will also be picking up a GK 700 II as a back up to the tube heads.

when i had my v4b, i was playing through a svt15e and svt210he. the svt15e was one of the worst cabs i've ever used (and i had two at the time - they were both boomy and eq'ing the rig was a nightmare). what i did and what you may find as a cheap solution is to trade your 15" cab for another svt210he. i found the svt210he's to be quite decent cabs for use with the v4b. i have since moved to epifani cabs but would also highly recommend you have a listen to the genz uber cabs .....

and yes, you could easily replace your two ampeg cabs with one of the 212's you have mentioned.

I play 60s-70s dance stuff in a moderatly loud band. The PA is not so good so I prefer to be self-sufficient. I play with my fingers, no picks. My slap style is poor, and is used more for noise making than anything else.

My fave cab of all time is a 66 Showman tone-ring with JBL E140. But it is too big and heavy for use today.

I think a 212 is a great stand alone cab. But as RickenBoogie said, lots of differences in tone. Play them all and see which one grabs you. And I'd include the Mesa PH212 since it's loaded with neos also.
The GK 700 II is pretty bulletproof. Good backup choice, although a little heavy to tote around as a backup.
