I believe in INEXPENSIVE MIJ BARGAIN basses

Few basses can compete with the price/quality/tone of the 70-80's basses made in japan (ok, Peavey of same years can!).

If that ibanez/fernandes/aria/yamaha/vantage/tokai/fender is not perfect as is, usually only needs new tuners if that

....I guess my question/thread is....why do these basses get so little respect compared to the chicom fender/shecter/younameit new bass guitars today? It seems vintage gibson and fender basses go for a bit...tokai hard punchers as well, but really unless cliff burton or john taylor played a model, these MIJ's still sleep on ebay (good for us!?)

I can't digest my food knowing a new indonesian/chinese model sells for more than a used (in great shape) mij model.

all I know is nothing I have ever played has compared to my x-77 vantage mij bass, and my fernandes jazzbass kills most.

heck...i go to the local guitarcenter and laugh at the fret finish on gibsons (usa fenders are actually pretty nice!).

somebody tell me i'm crazy....or not crazy....i need an x-file break from seeing all these mij gits going for less than a used chinese schecter.

People in the US tend to want US made Fenders, so the MIJ basses sell for less. I really think it's as simple as that. The MIJ basses you mentioned are great instruments, generally, and it's just a matter of supply/demand and perceived value.

A lot has to do with Brand name. And just lack of knowledge.

For Instanceusing a guitar example)
A lot of people know that Tom Andersons and Suhr's are amazing guitars. However a lot of people dont know that both companies used to be part of Schecter Customs in Japan. Many people are turned off the name Schecter because it just doesnt really seem like a highend name. I have seen Schecter custom guitars that are in better condition go for cheaper than tom andersons that were heavily used. People just get sucked into the name brand trap thats all.
