The one I know best is Periphery with Nolly Getgood. He uses Darkglass.
Am I the only one who sees the irony?
It's not unusual for an artist to use a technique or piece of equipment tastefully while others over do it. Think Victor Wooten and almost everyone else double thumbing on YouTube.
I could hear them. Age maybe causing hearing issues? No offense but your demographic and playing style differs 180 from this so no one expects you to like it or hear the notes in it. I easily could but also am listening on good headphones with younger ears.
Nothing here meant to be offenseful as usual Cheese. I don't care for this style at all either (along with many others) but it's really popular so it must be in with the cool kids.
Maybe there is a blue pill that will get my eardrums hard and tight.
I can hear the notes but dude's tone is like chewing on tinfoil.. I blame that poopy foiltone on Frank Bello...
I guess someone less skilled wouldn't get the expected sound for bass in this type of music. Maybe the intended audience is looking for less traditional bass sounds. Maybe the situation in the video needed an entertainer more than traditional bassist.

I hear the bass notes themselves very distinctly and pretty clearly even though its far from my personal cup o' tea in tone (nor is it a cup o' tea music genre), and I played it a few times just to be sure.....and its fairly upfront in the video posted.....maybe its because I like bright and stringy bass (without distortion) that perhaps my hearing is accustomed to that kind of harmonic range tone out of a bass? <shrug>

I guess if listening on something crappy like a phone / ipad without using headphones, maybe not be able to hear? To me it's pretty easy to pick out what is being played for the vast majority of the 12 minutes.
I'm not a big fan of tech death. I could totally be down for instrumental bands cos its the vocals that kill it for me. But that's on me as I've not put effort into finding that.
I however agree with the grump hate and end-run around no trolling. It gets old. If you don't like something, don't post about it.
Periphery isn't tech death (they're more prog metalcore / djent). Also, Nolly isn't with them anymore.
I know he quit. It was mentioned on TB. I cannot pretend to know all of the Metal sub-genres.

I'm no spring chicken at 40, but I do have really good ears for that stuff. Really though, a guy with that much speed and attack would be bored senseless playing browned eyed girl all the time and he needs to shred his brains out some.
You missed the tone of my post. The truth is there are no hard lines between overdrive, distortion and fuzz, and while there are many ways of distorting an audio signal, there is no distinction that types a, b and c are over drive, d, e, and f are distortion, etc. It's all highly subjective stuff. About the only true agreement is that fuzz is generally more distorted than distortion (the borders are completely arbitrary), and overdrive is less distorted than distortion.
So, the gist of it is there are enough categories that every band gets it'a own sub genre, so they can claim to be the best at whatever the thing is that they do. Got it.
