I don't know about the Fender, but I've been to a local music store at least three times to play a Corvette $$ they have there. The moment I started playing it I knew it was a bass that I'm gonna spend a lot of time saving for. As far as specifics, I don't know who said it was heavy in this thread, but it definitely isn't. Also, as far as the "bassball bat" neck thing goes, it felt perfectly comfortable to me, which is strange because I have small hands compared to most guys my age. The neck is also made up for with the jumbo frets, or at least that's what someone told me it was; all I know is that the thing played waaay smoother and faster than my Ibanez starter bass or a lot of basses I've tried in stores. It had a lowish set up, but that could not be the only thing accounting for it.

And here's the topper: the first amp I played it through was a Behringer Ultrabass 300w combo, because that's what I use at home. And it sounded AWESOME.
Granted, it sounded more amazing through the Mesa Boogie and Warwick full stacks they had in there.

Another big concern I have with the J would sound good in a modern rock style playing. Like Velvet Revolver modern rock kind of stuff or if it would just sound out of place.

I own a $$ and a MIA jazz.

I finally got a workable tone out of the $$ tonight at band practice for the first time after at least a half dozen practices with it. It's got a lot of variety in all the knobs and switches but honestly, I only got it to sound good by bypassing most of those, putting it in passive and cranking the heck out of the mids on the amp.

The 24 frets are nice if I'm on the upper half of the neck and soloing but I prefer the Fender's 19 frets for the low end stuff.

I learned how to play bass on a Fender jazz neck and I am personally partial to the vintage sound. The $$ to me is an alternative to my "real" bass. It gives me some options and keeps me on my toes, but it's not the sound I'm after, the neck I find comfortable, or the look I'm going for.

As for Velvet Revolver, I've never seen Duff play anything but Fender instruments.

Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna go with the Warwick, I'ma still try it out on Saturday, but it's pretty much between the Jazz and Stingray5

I love MusicMan products, i have a SR5 and its AWESOME!
I have a warwick corvette on the way as we speak/type.
