I can't hear myself :(

and never mind that "bass waves develop at a distance" nonsense (if that were true, you couldn't hear low end in headphones); get your rig closer to you.

True, but the room will affect where you hear the bass.

"It's not unusual for the low end of any sub or low frequency speaker to be hard to hear when standing close to it. Reflections off nearby walls and the ceiling create low frequency null zones. If you're standing in one of those null zones the bass will disappear."

sure, and you're certainly quoting someone who knows, but dealing with hot spots and dead spots in a room is different from the idea that bass magically appears at some distance from the source absent reflections.

That wasn't my point. If the poster regularly plays in a certain spot (house of worship, etc.) and has the problem a change in position, cab or player, may help. That's all I was trying to say. The person who I originally quoted said to move closer which may not be the answer, but not because the bass magically appears. If the cab is pointing at your legs or hips it may help to move out or tilt it up. If it happens everywhere well then my point doesn't really matter.

P.S. How do you quote more than one post at a time?

yeah, we're not really in disagreement, here.

(click on the "+ button for each post you want to add except the last one, then hit "quote" for that last one.)

I had trouble hearing/feeling the bass in our basement rehearsal space. I had been to a trade show and seen/played with the buttkicker platform - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
I didn't invest in one, but I made a poor man's version by putting my cabinet on a small plywood platform with 2 x 2 framing only around the edges so it's kind of boomy to stand on. Makes a fair impact.

i like that!

you could extend the idea, say if you were doing a church gig that demanded no stage volume, by using IEMs, but also setting up an amp and say, a front-ported 2x10 cabinet on this resonant platform, but with the cab laying face-down on the platform. there wouldn't be much sound in the room, but you would really feel it through your feet.
