It all depends on what you want out of these things. The 'arrow-through-the-head' building schtick is funny and makes interesting art pieces and instagram fodder, but there's no reason you can't also go over the little fine details that make something perfectly playable and develop and apply lutherie skills in the process. You can turn the end of a fretboard into a zero fret if that helps for sure. I'm curious about a sideways body and neck joint, the same way I like a millenium falcon bass or guitar made from skateboards. Maybe you'll have to use a mandolin sized scale neck.
You could always move into multi-necks too.
