Don't get me wrong, I'm mostly excited, but still scared.

Think of how far the human race has come in the past, lets say, 100 years.

Medicine:

• Sir Alexander Fleming is often associated with developing Penicillin, which fights bacteria. This was in 1928.
• Now, there are developments in Stem Cell Research, Finding a Cure for Cancer and other diseases, etc.

Technology:

• The first computer (That sky-rocketed) was the IBM, in 1981. It had a memory capacity of 16kB - 640kB.
• 2007- IBM Has developed a 'supercomputer' with the memory capacity of 32,768 GB!!!
• Most Household Computers, IIRC, have a thinking capacity of 80-120 GB.
• In 2013, It's predicted that most computers will exceed the thinking capacity of a human brain

Do stats like these scare anyone else?
I can't help but think of A.I the movie, and thinking robots are going to get TOO smart.

Do they scare me? Not really. I love the times we're in. I love the times we're advancing into as well. Either way, we're here for the ride whether we want to be or not!

The thing about the statement of computers exceeding the thinking capacity of a human brain is that computers and brains work very differently. Usually when they say this they are referring to shear processing power. For instance, there was an article in Byte magazine a couple of years ago that said something to the effect that it would take hundreds of years of Cray (supercomputer) time to match the amount of signal processing that takes place in the retina of the eye in a second.

Matching the processing power of the human brain would also be very different than being intelligent. Also, most things I've read in Comp Sci circles tends to suggest that this may occur sometime in the 2020s, not in 6 years.

Yeah, I believe in the theory of devolution. I just can't shake the feeling that the average human is getting dumber and dumber. It seems every time I see a glimmer of hope, this huge turd of despair falls on top of it. Not to mention I almost mispelled despair

My mom just informed me as a representative of the United States Government (Social Security) that in around 2012 we will all be getting National IDs which will replace our drivers licenses, passports, and much more. I never knew that was going to happen, kind of scary.

Technology is a very creepy thing though, it is great and all and I use it constantly, but I can foresee a very dangerous future in route.
