It´s because P basses really do sound so much better. Fact.

I have to disagree. I think both P's and J's sound incredible at what they do best, and hence greedy little me has to own at least one of each.

As for the OP I'd say try to play a J that has been set up to what you are comfortable with. If you still don't like it, that's fine. You have to find your own gear-tone chain that makes you happy as a player.

I won't argue one bit against Ps sounding better than Js.

That being said, I prefer Jazz basses. The necks just suit me better, and I prefer the body shape.

The bridge PUP sound is nice too.

I won't say better, just a bit different, and sometimes I prefer the P as well sonically.

The rest of this sentiment is spot on IMO.

Another thing to consider with GC or any big chain bunch, go to the guy at the counter and say " I am considering this bass at the price you are asking, but it is setup like crepe. Fix it so I can try it properly, or I walk and no comission for you." That should get them in gear. If it doesn't, follow through on the threat.

atm, i like my squier P-bass rather than my Fender jazz. my next bass wil probably be an Aerodyne cuz i like the P middle pup and the jazz bridge pup. or maybe a passive humbucker will suit me...
