I Got a Lemon

well folks, i have some bad news.

i purchased a 2002 Mazda 626 with 53.5k mileage
about three and a half weeks ago

it was equipped with a 90 day dealership warranty

and has been in the shop twice so far.
both for transmission problems.

they say they put a new transmission in there

but my car is sitting in my church's parking lot,
unable to start.

i'm so fed up that i think i'm just going to go
and get my money back.

thank God for the Texas Lemon Law.

Lemon Laws are wonderful, best of luck with your car and all.

I hear ya. Some friends of mine purchased a new Hyundai about a year ago, and it had transmission problems. The dealership kept "fixing" it, but it never solved the problem. They had to get an attorney involved to help them enforce the Lemon Law.

Texas Lemon Law

If you are having repeated problems getting your new vehicle repaired, and it was purchased or leased from a licensed Texas dealer or lease company, the Texas Lemon Law may be able to help you get it repurchased, replaced or repaired.

Some examples of vehicles covered by the Lemon Law are cars, trucks, motorcycles, motor homes and ATVs. The law covers new and demonstrator vehicles that develop problems covered by a manufacturer’s written warranty. Towable recreational vehicles must be titled and registered in Texas to be eligible.

Your used vehicle may be covered under the Lemon Law. If your used vehicle is still covered by the manufacturer’s original warranty (not an extended service contract), or if the problem started while under warranty and it continues to exist, repair assistance of the warranty-related problem may be available to you.

Wow, something good in Texas?

If that's the case (with your transmission), then you're screwed. We had transmission problems with our minivan like you describe. "Oh, it was the computer. We tweaked it. Run it for a while to gather data and come back." "Ok, we had no idea what was going on, so we just replaced your transmission." It still didn't work. The place ended up folding so we can't get our money back and we have a dead minivan. Isn't that awesome?

Don't even bother trying to get it fixed. Just go right for a different car.
