I got a new amp for christmas and need advice

I don't really know much about amps and my mom bought me a Traynor Bass Mate 25w for christmas.

I believe she paid a little over $100 for it. As of now I just jam with friends but we are getting a band together and hope to play some shows at small venues this summer. Is this a good amp for the price or should I take it back and try to put the money towards something better? I couldn't really find much information on it so i figured I would just ask you guys what you think. Thanks

This amp probably won't be able to keep up too well for any kind of shows, unless you have PA support but even then. I would say hold onto to it though, it is a Christmas gift, unless your mom is fine with you taking it back to get some store value to save up for something else.

how do you take back an amp your mom bought you? ;)

got to be honest, though...it will struggle. if you can at least spring for a decent 100w combo, that would at least be giggable as long as you're not looking to blow people's heads off with volume.

If your goal is an amp to play with a band, this is not it. For less than 300 you can get a Peavey TKL 15. It's heavy and biggish but loud enough to play with a drummer and gig with. IMO that's about the cheapest you'll find a giggable rig. Thne one you got is fine for practice or playing with an acoustic guitarist or 2 or an electric guitarist in a soft volume setting.
