i am cosidering replacing the strings on my bass from obligatos to ub blacks. the diameter of the ub blacks are from the E 3.1-2.6-2.3-2.0 and the obligatos are 2.8-2.2-1.8-1.5 is that enough of a difference in diameter to worry about widening the nut and the bridge. i know the short answer would be "if its pinching the string widen the groves". i have never changed the strings on a double bass before so im hoping someone with experience can ease my mind and tell me that the difference in diameter should not cause me to need to take a file or anything else to my bass. thank

sorry to hear that. it was professonally set up and i dont have a bass guy. there are a couple of luthiers about a hour away, but i dont have a relationship with either and when ever i have called to inquire about getting work done the wait time is usually a couple of weeks. cant be without my bass for that long.

i guess the best thing to do is go ahead and bring my bass up there and get to know the luthier a little bit. chances are i will need some attention on my bass in the future. maybe i can get a appointment for this small job and get it done on a specific day, my calls in the the past have been just in general calls nothing specific. the luthier is in savannah geogia, a guy named randy wood. i guess he is a guitar and mandolin builder, but has a bass and fiddle guy. thanks for advise.
