I just bought a 15 with a BUM speaker.

Internal dims. are the only reliable way to match up a speaker to a cab. The cab design starts with the driver and you build the cab to the driver.
If you have a question about the choice given, ask the question, so the responder can set your mind at ease .
A lot of different things come into play when choosing a replacement driver (power ratings are fairly low on the list)

At least get the cost of the speaker fix back from him.
Super glue what you have for now.
Go get a recone at your nearest service center that does speakers for ampeg

Get an Eminence BASSLITE® C2515-I replaced the OEM Speaker in my Ampeg SVT115E cab with a C2515 and it totally rocks.Sounds WAY better than before.Clearer & punchier all the way around.Plus it lightened up the weight cab a lot.Best thing I could have done to that cab IMO.

sounds like a good way to go, but I know that the SVT 115E is a much smaller cab than my BXT 15 so im not sure if that will sound good.

Ill have to do some measuring.

and to the post above yours, i could have it recconed i suppose??its a pretty long tear in the speaker, it may be worth just buying a new one

Ha! I bought an amp used from a craigslist ad. Met the guy at a GC and tried it out. Forked over the cash and the very next day, the volume started wildly going up and down. I came on here to ask if anyone knew what it could be and to vent about getting sold a lemon, and LOTS of people were total buttheads to me about it. "Its your problem now", "if I were the seller, I wouldnt help you pay for it" (he did pay for half after I threatened legal action). Just total jackasses.

Tell me the seller didnt know about a busted speaker? (much like the guy who sold me my amp didnt know the amp had something wrong with it)

If you can't get the 4 ohm Carvins, why not just make them 8 ohm cabs? The SVT will put out the same power regardless of the load, and you'll have a lot more drivers to choose from. For 8 ohm drivers, the choice will depend on your budget and whether or not you want neo. I am assuming that you want to replace both drivers at the same time - the odds are high that the other one will also develop fatigue fractures in the surround.
