I Just Can't Get With The Squires

I bought a Squire Jazz in white for my Middle School Jazz Band and it plays and sounds just fine. I do the neck adjustments and just put a set of Fender 7250's on it and it's great! Do I personally own one...no, since I prefer a thicker neck but the name wouldn't stop me from getting a Squire Pbass

I play drums in a band where the bassist plays a Squier 5 string Jazz bass, it sounds decent.

It drives the guitarist (who plays two different American Fender Stratocasters) nuts that the bass player gigs with a Squier. I own a few American Fender basses and wouldn't mind lending them to him for gigs to shut up the guitarist. But I'm a four string guy.

The bass player can afford to play whatever he wants, at this point he is playing the Squer just to drive the guitarist crazy. (It's fun to watch.)

Oh, that is choice! Now I sooooo wanna be a fly on the wall at your rehearsals!!

It's weirdly opposite in my band. My guitarist isn't a fan of my Rickenbackers, but is totally cool with my Squier P.

1 piece maple neck on my VM precision5 has been super stable. More stable than my MIA and MIM 4 string necks. Crappy hardware on the VM, but I have no complaints about the neck and basswood body. Neck had a few low spots near the usual 12-16 fret area, but it wasn't too bad.

Played a gig on sat. with the 50's CV Precision. Earlier in the day i installed the Seymour Duncan scpb-3 and relocated the tugbar into a thumbrest position above the PU. The new PU made a huge difference in quality and output. It also evened out the string response.
Tonewise, at least for me, this is a one trick pony but the tone is really, really nice. With TI Jazz flats, volume pot dimed, tone pot 20% i got a warm, woody and thick tone that seemed to perfectly match the soft, rubbery feel of the TI's. Low action and low tension strings made for effortless playability. Overall very pleased with this bass and for me at least, a very gig worthy axe.
The tone pot seems very harsh above 30% so not very usable for me. Maybe a different pot or capacitor (or both) might tame the harshness and open up some more tonal variation.
