I killing my strings in two gigs

Do you think that anyone but you would notice the difference if you did not replace strings as often as you think you need to?

Unless you are breaking them, they are not "killed" they might not sound the same as they did within the first day but to everybody else you sound the same. I have a friend that has been killing the bass for over fifty years and he has always told me that strings only have about two hours of what he likes to call life in them, then they start sounded stale to him. But I asked him one day after I knew he had took about a six month hiatus. "When was the last time that you changed your strings" and he looked at me with disappointment in his eyes and said about six months. That's when I said. "You sounded just like you had six months earlier". Save you some money and ride them strings out.

I learned a lot with this post. Most of all I learned that others have the same experience.

Getting this kind of info is invaluable. Positive or negative information is a gift.

Gonna try a couple of these remedies and I'll post the results.

Thanks to all.

Glad to be of help! It would be nice if we all had the touring budget of The Who or something and could afford to change the strings on our basses every gig or whatever but for most of us that is not financially feasible so just do what makes sense financially.

Did the slap the sh$t of of em trick on a set that had more time on them than I typically have. Noticeable difference... Brighter but overtones didn't come back.

Sooo..... I boiled em. Even better but certainly not the same as new. I'm gonna leave em on for a gig tomorrow night. Then I'll change em for Saturday.

We'll see.

These are among my very favorite strings. I have them on all of my 4's (DR..make me a tapered .135 and they'll be on my 5's as well!). Love them. They are coated, but not slick like Elixirs.

I was actually averse to them after trying some Black Beauties, which I thought felt plastic and sticky. The Dragon Skins did not... would recommend those strings. Currently enjoying the Dean Markley Helix strings atm.
