Bassman and Tim,

Can you characterize the subtle or not so subtle differences between the various models you own and maybe name a favorite? BTW those are both fine herds that any rancher'd be proud to put his brand on. YEEHAW!!!

I would love one. I have a Dano 63 and a Hodad, but would really like a Longhorn. Both my Danelectro basses have the "upgraded" adjustable bridges and metal tuners and I would like to find one of the older longhorn reissues that also had these features. Any thought about whether they really make a difference in either playability or tone?

Just heard one two weeks ago in small club and came away impressed. I wish I could snag a black one, but the only thing availabe seems to be orange.

I havent ever noticed a difference in tone or playabilty between the rosewood bridge and adjustable one, dating back to my first(not counting my Hondo Longhorn in the 80s, which is a totally different animal) Jerry Jones Longhorn VI bought in 1990, which had the wooden bridge. If you set up the wooden bridge properly the intonation is fine. IMO.

The current "Dead-On '58" Longhorn is only available in "copperburst" but the previous reissues are pretty easy to find on ebay, at a decent price too. You'd probably like the necks if you like your Hofner's.

Scotty, The Jones' and the Danos both feel about the same to me, only difference being the Dano's neck is deeper from fingerboard to back of neck. As for sound I find the Jones has a bit more low-end while the Dano has more of that (im)famous Dano scooped mids.

Also, if you wanna more adjustable bridge you can always order a replacement bridge with individual bridge section.

Here's a couple Longhorns I no longer own, a Jerry Jones VI bought new in 1990, pic from 1991.

And a JJ 4-string in the same finish as one I still have but this one had the wooden bridge. I used to tour with the two greenbursts, this one with flats and the other with rounds.

Actually its nothin' special, just a Vox T25 bass combo from about 10 years ago. I did have to search for awhile to find one with brown grillcloth, only ones I was finding had the black cloth.
Several times a year we do concerts with an orchestra and the stage volume has to be pretty low, I use the Vox and the Fender Musicmaster Bass amp together. Biamped, lows to the Vox, highs to the Fender, sounds great.

I've actually been GASsing for a Dead-On 58, but have heard a couple of horror stories about bridges pulling out of the masonite tops, tuning difficulties and electrical gremlins. Any truth there, or is it all BS?
