I Miss My Warwick Thumb 5

The thumb is one of those basses that you own and love the tone, but the weight or ergonomics can be a major turn off. I’ve had at least one thumb in my arsenal for over 15 years. I remind myself why they’re on the never sell list, every time I plug them in.

Once I played on someone else's Warwick Thumb Special Edition, I think it was NT and year 2000.
It remains one of probably top 3 bass guitars I played.

I keep wondering about a custom Dolphin Pro I with the Thumb pickups. I love my NT 6, but the thing is ridiculously heavy. My Dolphin on the other hand is pretty perfect ergonomically, other than the neck profile, but I'm kinda put off by the idea it'd be equally as heavy, being a Warwick and 6/7 string

Always wondered why they didn’t put the thumb pickup setup in a streamer. Thumbs sound great and look cool but I wouldn’t want to fight with one.

Also it’s wild that this bass has an infamous reputation for having a submarine headstock that dives deep to the floor of the ocean, but they keep making and selling them every year. Who’s buying these things? Haha

A Streamer with Thumb style pickup placement is a great idea!

Warwick has done the Streamer with Thumb PU configuration quite a few times. Usually these are Custom Builds but I think they had a small limited series of them in the 80s for an anniversary or something like that.
