I need a backup/practice head

I think for the most part, many players feel that Behringer products are the bottom of the barrel (but I have no experience, I'm just reiterating what I've read on this forum). But for $149, the price might be just right for something like that...

They aren't bad, but I'm just not impressed with Berhinger quality control. Somethings they make are decent while others are heaping piles of poopoo (IMO). A few bands I've worked for (doing sound) and played with use 'em and they aren't horrible sounding amps, but they aren't great either.

By the way, do you really need 300 watts for a practice amp? :D

I had one of those 300 watt behringer heads that I got when they first came out for $200. It was my main that became my backup after I got an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro. Anyway I ended up having some problems with the Ampeg cutting in and out so while I took it in I was using the Behringer, and the band liked the sound from the behringer better. So I sold the Ampeg and was using the Behringer full time. Never had any problems with it, I ended up down the road selling it to a friend of a friend who I think is still using it.

So long story short, I guess I'm in the "for" column.

That being said, GK stuff can be had really cheap as well. And though I had good luck with that BX3000 head I later got a Behringer 12" combo to use for practice, and it actually broke between the time I tried it out and bought it at the store and got it home.

He did say backup/practice amp, so I take it the head may need to serve gig use, possibly.

I say go for it. What do you have to lose? 150 bucks? I looked at that head when it came out, ended up not getting one.

But, the price does seem a tad high given the original new price of $200.

I did a quick search on the bay and found a factory B-stock Behringer BX4500H (replaced the 3000, 450 watts) for $209 shipped w/one year warranty.

While I myself have a moral issue with buying Behringer products, I have heard more expensive heads sounding worse... I've heard the horror stories, but the two bass amps and one keyboard amp that I have had personal interaction with performed and sounded good.
