Sure it is. Doing what you love to do is easy. You just can't expect big paychecks and hit songs out of it

I know this is a pretty old thread, but I came across this thread whilst looking for info on any gear you used on the M83 albums (which I just recently took the time to listen to. Wow! especially that tone on Reunion!)

What was the third Tegan and Sara song you produced? Wikipedia says you produced “Drove me wild” & “How come you don’t want me”

Also any info on M83 bass gear used would be greatly appreciated as well. Very glad to have heard those. Better late than never I suppose!

Hey there...you're welcome, and here's some info:

1) Glad you dig the M83 stuff thank you. Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is my '75 P-bass mostly, with a couple of songs on Guild Starfire. Various pedals, B15 amp and Sunset Sound DI box. Junk is lots of stuff...the above, but also Mustang, RD Artist, Rickenbacker, Eko, etc. Mostly B15 as well, but some Fender Bassman TV too.

2) Other Tegan and Sara song is called "Leap Of Faith" and isn't released yet, though it's mixed and ready to go. It's an incredible song. Someday maybe.

I had thought that Reunion was probably your Root Beer P (with some drive, perhaps the Rusty Box?). That's a crisp tone right there.

Junk has some crazy basslines. Cuts through the mix so clearly, and incredibly fat and groovy for something so current. Something most music is missing these days IMO. Reminded me a bit of your parts on the Paramore album. Your performance on Moon Crystal is an obvious standout IMO.

Is the bassy part on Do It, Try It a bass or a synth?

Good to know about the other Tegan & Sara song. Sucks it didn't make the album but here's to hoping they'll release it someday.

Hey man thank you. Yeah, I'm proud of the work on Junk, it was carefully crafted for sure. Do It, Try It is Roland D-50 bass doubled with fretless. The fretless you can hear in little slides into every section and throughout, really. It's fairly dark. The whole breakdown/bridge section is the fretless alone.

Very cool. I don't think you could ever be too proud of your work with M83.

I always find it interesting to go back and listen to a track once I find out what gear was used on it. Sometimes it sounds different or I hear something I didn't hear before.

Didn't know you were much of a fretless player other than Debra. What are you using for fretless basses?

Yeah, in the band Pet that I used to be in, I only played fretless. Done a bunch of session work on it too. It's a Schecter USA Traditional J fretless with a rosewood fingerboard.
