I disagree. I have two compressors that I use for my PA. I have Presonus ACP88 and a Rane DC-24. I hardly ever use the DC-24 since I bought the ACP88. Both compressors are extremely transparent. To me, that is the sign the sign of a quality compressor. Using a compressor should not change your tone. It can change your tone (for the worse) if you have an extreme ratio setting at a low threshold setting. If you did this, you are not taking full advantage of your amp's power potential. You are essentially playing with your volume squashed no matter how light or aggresive your attack is. Even if you over-compress, your amps tone should still have a dominant presence in the mix.
