I really feel so confuse about that...

Good day.. Everybody:

Here is a question I think about for a long time,
Between the single padels and the Multi-Effect padels,
Can't dicide which one I can choose,
If I need some effect i use for gigs necessary, like preamp,
DI out, EQ, chorus, delay, octave, etc.. Should I choose the Multi-Effect Pedals? life the POD BASS XT-LIVE or ZOOM B9.1u?
but If the Multi-Effect pedal can't have a good sound as the single padels, now should I use the Single padels system?
there.. I usually doing some gigs ouside, the single system can be more easy to bring out?
Relay on the better sound, I perfer using the single system, now I really don't know which one I start to buy it, and the music market has so many brands and effects, I don't have too much money, really don't know how to choose those things.
Please I really need some suggestion or feedback for this kind of question, and really thanks a lot.

1. In taiwan, some Band will cover the songs for people in the coffee house or pubs, that we called "Doing gigs". So I perfer my equipment are easy for bring out.
2. I just sold out my ZOOM B2.1u, so I don't have any effects for use now.

By the way, I use two basses that Cort A6 and Warwick Thunb 6 BO.

Multi-FX pedals are complicated to figure out. It can be done but you have to invest time into it. I've played through the Bass POD Live and just found it to be to cumbersome to use. I much prefer a pedal board with what I need in terms of individual stompboxes. The Bass POD was pretty weak when using it to push my poweramp. Not nearly enough volume when compared to a dedicated preamp. I also didn't dig amp modeling.

Single pedals on a pedal board works best for me because,...well there they are....there is the unit; there are the knobs...twist away. The learning curve isn't dampened by trying to figure out banks and how to save settings. I'm that way to the point that I'd rather use external FX as opposed to the onboard FX on my microKORG (keyboard synth).

I also find that if you have a Multi-FX unit you are stuck with the sounds that the manufacturer gives you; albeit editable sounds. Say you like the Delay on your multi-FX but can't get a usable sound out of its distortion. If you had stompboxes you could keep your delay and swap out the distortion for something that you can use. There is also a lot of fluff on a Multi-FX. Stuff that you may never use.

That said I love to give the Line6 M-13 a go, but I'm not sure it would be for me.

Ive got a gt10b, and yes the learning curve is high. but once you figure out how to get the sound youre looking for, you can save the patch and call it up with the press of a button.

I do all my EQing on the pedal instead of the amp, so i can swap instruments, press a few pedals and instantly all the setting are set perfectly. fiddling with the amp onstage is a thing of the past

The quality of the digital effects will always be up for debate, but i suggest you judge for yourself which you prefer. I find digital distortions to be poor compared to the analog or tube version but thats rarely an issue for me. Other digital effects are just fine by me.

If you go to the Post Your Pedalboard threads (pick one, there's 15 now - 16 by tomorrow), you'll see that there are a million solutions for packing around pedals that range from 'easy as 1 multi' to '15th trip's the charm'. There's also a wealth of info in those threads about what the pedals do and how good they are at it. You'll notice trends regarding what the most popular effects are at any given time and the pedals that seem to timeless.

Ultimately singles are the best way to sculpt your sound. It's more expensive to do it this way, but that's the trade off. If you only need a few effects then it should be pretty simple to make up a small board and go. If your looking to create a monster then you're in for a little more time.
