I saw Metallica last night...

i would have been a touch disappointed if i saw metallica and they didnt play sandman. its like motorhead not playing ace of spades and maiden not playing number of the beast, ya know
Exactly, and all the Metallica fans that claim they'd rather not hear it would cheer louder than any other song of the night if they did. And then they'd claim to have booed because they're TRUE fans and everyone who likes "Sandman" are posers.

Give me a break.

I wouldn't cheer louder, and I would never boo Metallica or any band for playing a song I didn't like. It's all about preference, and if people want to hear Sandman, then that's fine with me. Doesn't make them a poser or any less of a fan. It's just not one of my top picks out of all the Metallica songs, that's all.

Wow, awesome set list!
Great variety, im so glad they didnt play sandman or nothing else matters. they play those two in every concert they play
>.>. There are so many gems that i'd love for them to play live more often; of wolf and man, dont tread on me,disposable heroes, frayed ends of sanity, etc.

I have nothing against sandman, but its just like bon jovi with living on a prayer. every single concert. Overplayed, people get tired of listening to it yeah

Fair enough, but remember, this wasn't a normal Metallica show, it was a launch party for the fan club only with very little publicity or fanfare. If they played sandman, I would have gone nuts like everyone, but it's no great loss that they didn't.

I'm sure on a 'normal' Metallica show they would not dream of leaving out their biggest 'hit'.

If Lemmy didn't play Ace of Spades, I'd demand a refund.

Lemmy always plays Ace of Spades. Thats one of the only recognizible songs from Motorhead. But Metallica has a ton of songs that get radio air time and Sandman is played so often since the early 90's that most people are sick of it. As a Metallica fan I would much rather here another song in Sandmans slot. There not touring for the Black album anymore. When you have that many hits you can't make everyone happy.

You seem to know a lot about a band's fans for not being one.

Give it a rest already; some people want to hear the hits, some don't. Doesn't make them snobbish any more than people who idolize a 30 year old picking style...

Oh, I get it now...you're talking about the Carol Kaye thing I posted in technique. Yeah, that's a real good comparison...comparing something that could keep you from injuring yourself to snobby Metallica fans. Makes you look real intelligent to put them on the same level.
