during rehearsal I don't but live I have a lot of energy and move around , I sound to plucky, I use a pick and my lh1000 is eq'd at 7 low 9 mid 4 high, should I lower the mids?

I'm guessing since you play with more energy during live performances, that you're probably picking harder. If that's the case, you need to reign in how hard you pick during live shows while still maintaining high energy.

Or you could try to replicate the "plucky" sound at rehearsal and twist knobs (mids, highs, tone knob on bass) until you like what you hear.

But, you really should focus on your technique first and foremost since you're not liking the tone that you're getting live.

It also depends on the bass you are playing.

My old bass sounded like that and when I got a new one I realised the bass was the problem.

it would probably sound better with someone else playing it, but I play with a pick and play hard, and that's how I like it.

Add a low pass filter to signal chain. Broughton makes a popular one.

You can cut freqs. above a certain level allowing the lower ones to pass. It can remove the pick noise.

The ultimate solution is to maintain consistent technique, but gear-wise, consider adding a compressor to your signal chain. You could set the threshold such that you don't run up against it much with disciplined playing, but cross the threshold when your attack gets too strong. Compressors are fantastic for evening out the dynamics when your playing tends to be inconsistent.

Got a tech 21 bass fly rig in the amazon cart. That'll help. But turning down my mids helped a bunch, just played with Crazy Town and Davey suicide last night. It made me realize we need a light show bad lol
