Ibanez Axstar restoration

The axstar is looking like a bass again.
After final sanding and polishing I remounted the hardware and the neck.
The electronics are also almost complete, I'm just waiting for the pot for the blend control to arrive.

Remaining things to do:
  • Install blend control pot
  • Repair tuning mechanism
  • Install strap locks
  • Setup
If all goes well it should be finished somewhere next week :hyper:

Thank you all for the kind words :)

Since I'm stuck again, because there won't be any new parts arriving until after the weekend, and my circuit is complete except for the blend pot I decided to test the pickups individually.
But I've run into something weird:
When I connect the neck pickup everything works fine, but when I connect the bridge pickup it gets strange.
It appears that the bridge pickup only outputs higher frequencies (when I turn the tone knob all the way up there's no sound at all) :s

Does anybody know what could cause this?
I'm fairly certain that my wiring is correct (otherwise I would have the same problem with the neck pickup).

After troubleshooting the bridge pickup and consulting with other TB members it appears that one of the coils of the bridge humbucker is bad.
Meaning I have to get that coil rewound or replace the humbucker; either way I will no longer be able to finish the bass by the end of next week :(

I guess I'll go relax now with a good Belgian beer :p

And some more new parts arrived, the new strap en DR neon strings:

Sadly it's only a 2-string for the moment since I had to give a working tuning mechanism as a reference to make the new one.
But with a little luck that's fixed this week or next week at the latest.

No, not really :p
I prefer to live in a country without a lack of good beer :D

You got me there...

I used to go to Essen to buy my beer.
Speciale hoegaarden, they do not sell that here, gloryiuos beer.
Bornhem was also one off my favorites, them 0,7 Liter bottles.
A friend off mine bought a whole bunch of west-vleteren there, he was very happy with that.
Usely it's only sold at the abbey door from them monks.

Indeed, normally you can only buy it at the abbey.
But as luck would have it there was a special action today where they sold 93.000 six-packs with two glasses in the Colruyt supermarkets.

So this morning, at 7:30 am, I was waiting in line for the store to open at 8:30 and got my hands on one of those :D

Made a little progress today.
Installed the new pickup cover on the neck pup and cleaned the screws up:

Luckily I won't have to wait much longer for it to become a 4-string again, the tuning mechanism should be repaired friday.
And let's hope the new bridge pup arrives soon as well :p
