ibanez bass question

I have a sr600 I really love the feel and the versitility of this bass, It has the bartillio pickups,

Question, I am wondering if there is a model with a similar feel but is an upgraded better quality model? and some of the differences.

I am itching to maybe get a new bass, some of the features I would change with the sr600

1. a better jaco sound
2. better sustain
3. better slap sound

The 600 does a pretty good job and yes I am looking for aot with these "better" features.
thanks all

yea it looks like the EMG-40DC p.u's are used in some of the higher models, then they also have propriatary p.u's with the even higher models,,,

What is tough is most stores dont stock some of these higher models hard to compare.

if I was to change only one thing I would have my bass get a better "Jaco/jazz" sound.

SR Prestiges have a fairly good tonal variety, but they won't do the J-bass sound thing. You can get a Jaco-ish tone from the bridge pickup, but forget about the growly both-pickups-on-full tone à la Geddy Lee or Mic Todd. The SR is a very modern-sounding bass, it's not good at being vintage.

danomite..
do u mean they were designed for both sounds in mind? Because I am not sure what you mean when u stated "jaco slap sound" to me they are 2 totally different sounds?

Ahh, I was just making fun of your misspelling of Bartolini. Jaco wasn't a slapper, for sure. I don't think a fretted, active Ibanez will ever sound like a fretless, passive Jazz bass, however. The Bartolinis in your 600 are manufactured by Ibanez, and several people who have that bass upgrade their pickups and preamp to real, Bartolini-made Bartolinis. I've used Barts in some basses, and I like the tone; I bet they'd sound fine for slapping. But, I don't do a lot of slap, so I might not be the best guy to ask about it. When I do slap, I tend to back off my treble knob. As for a Jaco sound, try setting the preamp flat, and solo the bridge pickup.
