Well, they are ok instruments but I believe all ibanez was trying to do was market a gimmick. That luthite body is light for sure, but it's prone to chips and stinks like hell (trust me it has a very distinct smell).
Electronics were ok but not noteworthy and I had a problem with the necks being so thin and spaghetti like.
Not trying to shoot you or ibanez down, but there are many basses out there I'd choose over another ergodyne bass

Yeah if you Crack or chip it you will smell gasoline. They are fine, but nothing amazing. Should be a standard Ibanez skinny neck. Yeah probably a little thinner than a J.
I've owned and edb 400 and the edb 600. The edb 600 obviously was/is a way better bass in general. The 400 is cheaper built and less tonal options but still a decent bass. With that said the Ergodyne series was such an awesome series made by Ibanez back in the early 2000's. I remember all of them being pretty expensive. Now you can pick them up for dirt cheap, which is cool cause you're getting a quality instrument that has more value then what they are being sold for right now for cheap. These Ergodynes will compete with your $1000$ plus instruments. I see people talkin negative about the luthite bodies not being made of wood in a few different threads on TB.
Personally I tend to be somewhat more traditional and I'm not one to venture away from a wooden made bass/guitar but on the other hand I don't really take notice to the luthite material. I just bought a charcoal grey edb 600. This will be the 2nd time I've owned this model bass and I'm looking forward to it considering I'm 10x the bassist I was when I last owned one. I've been playing Fender for some time now, and recently I've had a desire for a bass with a more comfortable neck. I've owned my fair share of Ibanez's also throughout the years and when I picked an sr1500 up and played it at GC I had forgotten how fast and comfortable Ibanez necks were. I recently put down the pick and went back to finger playing do to the style of bass playing I have been playing.
I been playing a lot more melodic, scaling, walking basslines consisting of speed at times and it's just to much for a pick. With that said, at times my fender p and even jazz basses seem to be slowing me down some as they feel like a chore to play while playing these type of basslines. I'm always looking to evolve and be better in every way as a musician with both bass and guitar. Always looking to play better, use more/new/different techniques, searching for that perfect tone and looking for that 1 instrument that to me is better then them all. I have different bass/guitars for different tones,techniques, phases and whatever else.

I am laughing about the stinky bass, I'd own it in a heartbeat. At least then my playing won't stink as much as the instrument (hopefully).

After 15 years the solvent smell is gone from mine.. and I love it more now than when I bought it. I had the 600 first, and bought the 605 from the factory sight unseen because I love them so much. I don't know HOW people chip them... I've done hideous things to mine and it's been absolutely bulletproof. (ok a bullet is one of the few things I haven't done). I have a BTB as well but the Ergo is my main bass still. Look at the photos.. that thing has done literally thousands of shows. It gets a set up and a fret dressing every 5 years, need it or not, and a battery every year.. out of habit.
