I haven’t heard from Sweetwater yet. I also like the sunburst, and I’d be ok with changing the order, but I hope it wouldn’t mean an even longer wait.

Fingers crossed for you. I'd love to have one of these ... I had a GWB35 for a while, and wish I hadn't let it go. I went on a 19mm spacing kick for a bit until I realized that I just prefer the narrower spacing.I haven’t heard from Sweetwater yet. Well, I finally did it, I pulled the trigger on a shiny new GWB35, my first fretless! Buuuut, Sweetwater isn't expecting it to be in until sometime in May. In the meantime, I thought I might live vicariously through my fellow TBers that own or have previously owned a GWB35. What do you guys think? Most of what I have read here is pretty positive. My own experience with the GWB35 is limited to playing a somewhat battered used one at Guitar Center, and I really liked it. Any quirks or tips to get the most out of it? Not that I am looking to do so at this point, but are there any mods that are recommended or that have worked out especially well? Thanks!
So did you get your new bass? WHat aer your impressions?
Yeah 9 lbs for the 205 is heavy! I thought they would be more like 7-8, being ash and limited electronics etc.
I like Pawlonia (which G&L calls Empress) a lot. From what I understand, they used to be very light, but it seems that good ash is getting harder to find. I believe Fender has stopped using it, with few exceptions, for this reason.
Maybe Ibanez should give Empress a try!

Ibanez's mahogany basses are usually extremely lightweight as well. I agree that it's likely the issues with the ash supply. EBMM put an article about it on their website last fall as well. It's too bad
Oh wow, that's a shame.
Well glad you got a light 35!
Exactly! They're so fast growing that they're even on the Washington State monitor list for noxious weeds lol (i.e. not listed as a noxious weed, but "under observation")Another nice thing is that pawlonia is the fastest-growing tree in the world, so maintaining a supply without wiping out what's already there wouldn't be difficult.
Looking at this bass now myself. Same dilemma, GWB35 or GWB205, but I'm having trouble shelling out $1500 for a fretless I might not use all the time. (I also eyed the SRF705 too). QUESTION: did you end up upgrading pickup? If so LMK which. I know finding a fit is an issue for some. I see Aguilar and Bartolini are the common ones.
