Schematic and wiring diagrams for the preamp/eq are easy to find on the web, I think I may have posted some myself in a Musician thread (or two).

I had an MC924 as my first bass- very well made, played really well but it was also very heavy.

Musicians are dang great. I have four... might be willing to part with one.
I once took the bridge off my MC924, there was nothing underneath but wood and a ground wire. This era musicians have extra metal rods in the neck at different lengths designed to quell dead spots.
cool stuff. I recently dug up this ad on eBay.
early 80s Ibanez "TR tuned" necks *HEY SCIENCE GUYS* does it make sense?

Seems like you might have the knowledge on this...
My bass has some problem with The active Preamp.
It works fine in passive mode, But as soon as i push The Pre amp switch....*silence*
Any idea?

This is going to come off as a really stupid question, but how do you tell the difference between active and passive if one isn't working? The reason I ask is the musician I currently have doesn't work when I toggle the switch down (towards the floor), but works very well when it is up. I thought that would be odd that the passive mode wasn't working, but it would make more sense that it's the active pre that's not working. My reason for pause is how hot and powerful the sound is when it works. If that's passive mode, I'm scared to get the pre working. Huge sound.

Tough to diagnose over the web; could be a loose wire, could be a bad chip (common dual op-amp in these).

No such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answers. (I'll try and avoid that...)

Does the eq work? Boost? Or just the volume and passive tone? If the three eq controls have no effect, then you are in passive mode. Also, disconnect the battery and see what works — without a battery, only the passive mode will work.

Yeah, Thats what i was thinking also, But i cant see anything like that.
I will do a fine-search and check all connections.
In worst case, ill put itup for sale, in case anyone with The knowledge can get it back in shape

I will guess Thats The active mode
In passive, it sounds smoothe and nice.
In active, on The other hand, you may push it to sound anything from sweet frethless to thunder!

I had one in the early 80s, and the thing I remember most was the super hot active electronics. It was too much for me. No dynamics with the electronics on. Great playing bass though. I always used it passive. Can't say if all the Musicians had similar features.
